The world is persistently changing and adapting as modern technology is persistently being discovered and new ideas are being applied. EMR software has become central for use in the healthcare industry. This article will help you understand where the healthcare industry is going with medical practice management software in the information era. If we take a look back in history, we find that these new ideas and innovations have sparked a rapid change in the way we do things. These rapid changes are also known as revolutions.

The first major revolution was the agricultural revolution.  It began in Great Britain, and the techniques that were used there begun a revolution of the way farming was done. which led the way for the information age.

One of the first inventions of this revolution was the seed drill, made known to the world by Jethro Tull.  Other inventions included the iron plough, the threshing machine, (which was invented by Andrew Meikle), and just some main changes in field crop rotation.  Some other developments were also implemented, including selective breeding and enclosure. Enclosure meant that the common fields that were in the past shared, now became separately owned and operated.

These innovations allowed for the beginning of the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution began because of the implementation of mechanization. The need for manual labor began to be substituted for by machines. Many factors contributed to the rise of this revolution. These factors include a rise in the workforce population, in part because much of the agricultural workforce begin to be replaced because of innovations in agricultural, and other reasons such as disease being lessened and of course new inventions such as the steam engine. We could go on to list all of the inventions and causes that contributed to this revolution, but that is not the focus of this article. What needs to be understood is that this revolution gave rise to the information age.

Since the 1980's we have been living in an exciting era; the era of information.  Never before has it been so easy to get new information on any subject matter.  Thanks to the internet, cell phones, pagers, television, and new advancements in radio, one can find and distribute nearly any information he or she desires.  With all these advancements, information technology has become important to the growth of many industries and new companies. One good example is in the finance industry. Spending there is much higher than that of the healthcare industry. They use information technology extensively, and usually spend up to ten percent of their gross revenue on it. If we analyze that and measure it up to the healthcare industry, we will find that there is quite a difference. Th health care industry only uses about two percent of their gross revenue for use on information technology.

It is central to note that for the last 50 or so years, the way medical records are made and kept has remained unchanged. There seems to be much room for improvement in the healthcare industry. Medical practices have much to gain by putting into service new practice management software, which primarily deals with medical billing, and EMR software which deals with patients' medical records. EMR stands for electronic medical record. Not only would finding the patients' medical records become quick and easy, they can also be shared among cooperating practicing physicians, pharmacies and hospitals. These records have become secure as banking records to ensure that the security of patients' medical records is not jeopardized. New advancements have also allowed for more interoperability between providers for EMR systems.

There is a continual increase, be it ever so slow, with information technology in the industry of health.  The future has much in store for the industry, and electronic medical records are definitely going to be apart of it. Many hospitals already have them in place.  Next time you have to go inside one, the wait to find all your records can be drastically reduced and hospitals will be able to provide for their patients in a timely manner.  Practice management software will also benefit every medical practice to organize all of their billing information and help them better work for their patients.
